Each year, as the calendar turns toward Holy Week, the Muzza High School Kabembe community pauses from the bustle of academic life to enter into a season of deep spiritual reflection. Beginning on Palm Sunday and culminating in the joyous celebration of Easter Sunday, Holy Week is not merely a tradition at Muzza it is the heartbeat of the school\u2019s faith identity. It is a time when students, teachers, and staff draw together as one family, the \u201cMuzza Family,\u201d united in meditation on the life, suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the week, the school chaplain serves as a faithful guide, leading the community through carefully selected scriptures and devotional reflections. Each day brings its own spiritual weight, building toward the most solemn and significant observance in the Christian calendar: Good Friday. The chaplain\u2019s guidance creates a space where young minds and mature hearts alike can encounter the profound mystery of Christ\u2019s love a love that bore the cross so that humanity might be set free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Good Friday at Muzza High School is unlike any other day in the school calendar. The moment students arrive, there is a palpable shift in atmosphere. The usual chatter and energy of school life give way to a quiet, meditative spirit. Faces reflect solemnity. Voices are hushed. The day is deliberately designed this way a somber mood descends over the campus, not to bring despair, but to invite genuine reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a day honoured with great reverence because it marks the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. The school community understands that before the glory of Easter Sunday, there must first be the profound sorrow of Good Friday. Scripture readings about the Passion of Christ His betrayal, His trial, His suffering, and His death \u2014 form the spiritual backbone of the day\u2019s programme. Meditative worship music fills the air, creating an environment where the heart can truly engage with the gravity of what it means that the Son of God laid down His life for the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centrepiece of Good Friday at Muzza is the Way of the Cross, a devotional practice that traces the final journey of Jesus Christ from His condemnation to His burial. The programme begins within the school grounds, where the chaplain gathers the entire community and opens with prayer, scripture, and an explanation of the significance of the day. With hearts prepared, the procession begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A wooden cross, symbolic of the very cross Jesus bore on His shoulders along the Via Dolorosa is carried by members of the school community. There is something deeply moving about the physical act of bearing this cross. It transforms an abstract theological truth into a lived, embodied experience. As hands grip the wood and shoulders feel its weight, even briefly, it stirs within the heart a renewed appreciation for the enormity of what Jesus endured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At different stations along the procession route, the community pauses. At each station, the chaplain or appointed readers proclaim relevant scripture passages. Passages that illuminate specific moments of Christ\u2019s journey: His condemnation by Pilate, His fall beneath the weight of the cross, His encounter with His grieving mother Mary, the stripping of His garments, His nailing to the cross, and His death. Each station becomes a sacred moment, an invitation to enter more deeply into the story of redemption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What made this year\u2019s Way of the Cross particularly remarkable was the breadth of participation. Every class from the youngest students to the most senior took part in the procession alongside all members of staff. This was not an event for a select few or a particular year group. It was a whole-school act of worship and witness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To see the entire Muzza Family, students in their school uniforms, teachers and support staff moving together in prayerful procession was a powerful testimony to the communal nature of faith. The procession was not silent, nor was it merely ceremonial. It was filled with worship songs that echoed across the school grounds, scripture readings that anchored every step in the Word of God, and a meditative atmosphere that invited every participant to make the journey personally and not just collectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The worship woven through the procession served as a reminder that the Way of the Cross is not a funeral march it is an act of love. Every song lifted, every verse read, and every prayer offered was a declaration that the community at Muzza understands and receives the love of Christ that the cross represents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the procession drew to its conclusion, the Muzza Family gathered in the main hall for a Holy Communion service a fitting and deeply meaningful way to bring the day to a close. The Lord\u2019s Supper, instituted by Jesus Himself on the night before His crucifixion, became at once a memorial and a celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the bread was broken and the cup was shared, the words of Christ rang afresh: \u201cThis is my body, broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me.\u201d The school community received these elements not as a mere ritual, but as a sacred encounter with the living Lord whose death the day had been honouring. The Holy Communion service carried the community from the weight of the cross to the table of grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chaplain, in his closing address, reminded the gathered community of the central message of Good Friday: that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross was not a defeat, but a victory. It was the very means by which humanity\u2019s sin was atoned for and the relationship between God and His people restored. \u201cChrist\u2019s death set us free from our sins,\u201d the chaplain declared words that landed on hearts that had spent the entire day walking the road to Calvary and were now ready to receive the fullness of their meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good Friday at Muzza does not end in despair. While the day carries genuine sorrow the kind that befits the death of One who was wholly innocent and wholly holy it also carries the irrepressible undertone of hope. The community at Muzza knows that the story does not end at the cross or the tomb. Easter Sunday is coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As students and staff dispersed at the end of the day, the chaplain\u2019s final words rang in their ears and their hearts: \u201cHe is not here. He has risen.\u201d Though those words properly belong to Easter morning, they are the lens through which the Muzza Family views Good Friday. The death of Christ is only half the story. The resurrection the triumphant, world-altering, death-defeating resurrection is the other half, and it is the half that makes all the difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Way of the Cross at Muzza High School Kabembe is, ultimately, not just a school programme. It is a declaration of faith. It is a community saying together, with conviction and with joy even in the midst of solemnity, that we believe in a God who loved us enough to die for us and who was powerful enough to rise again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.\u201d \u2014 Isaiah 53:5<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
